The state Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba who dropped the hint when the members of the Chattered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Lokoja and District Society paid him a courtesy visit after a Tax Walk in Lokoja today, said the state is blessed with solid minerals to be tapped into for the good of the people.
Achuba, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Akor Sylvester, said the partnership with foreign investors would benefit the state greatly in terms of proper utilisation of the natural resources
On the issue of tax payment, the Deputy Governor urged the institute to expedite action in ensuring that people pay their taxes, saying such compliance would help the state in the area of projects execution.
He said in the past, the issue of tax payment was a problem because of what he described as maladministration, saying that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) connection to revenue drive, has beaten all sharp practices in revenue collection.
The Deputy Governor therefore commended the group, stressing that its effort was in line with what the state government was doing in the area of revenue generation.
He said in time to come, it would be difficult for one to benefit from government’s contracts without paying tax, saying, with the money generated from tax, government embarks on projects without depending solely on allocation from federal government.
Earlier in her address , the chairman of the Chattered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Lokoja and District Society, Mrs Esther Owotunse said the aim of the tax walk was to express their support for the activities and programmes of the present administration of the state led by Governor Yahaya Bello.
Commending the state government for utilising the meagre resources available to it appropriately, Owotunse urged tax payers to pay their taxes to enable government to do more for the people.
According to her, the present administration of the state has done well for the people and will continue to touch the lives of the people in the state.
