The Kogi State government spends an average of N6.4 million on printing the state owned weekly newspaper, the Graphic, the Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Yabagi Bologi, has said.

The commissioner, who disclosed this in Lokoja at the weekend during an interactive session with the correspondent chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, said the paper would finance itself from January 2013.

He said the state government was spending an average of N6.4 million yearly on the printing of the paper, which according to him was currently being printed by the Nigerian Tribune in Ibadan.

Alhaji Yabagi said with the increasing financial burden confronting the state, it would be difficult to continue financing the paper, especially as according to him, the paper was not contributing to the state internally generated revenue. He called on the management to come up with alternative ways of sourcing for fund.

He said the government has already mapped out work plans for accelerated development of the state, adding that the government was distracted by series of legal battles and the recent flood disaster.

Bologi called on the people to be patient with the government, saying that as from next year, they will witness infrastructural development.
