Kogi State Government says it is working towards putting in place measures that will address incessant clashes between it’s indigenes and Fulani settlers in the State.
Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada, made the disclosure when he received in audience Alh. Muhhamadu Kabiru Isah, the Maiyaki of Kupa, who was in his office to intimate government on the recent clash that claimed seven lives, the burning down of 42 buildings, and destruction done to tractors, vehicles and motorcycles in Ekpan-Abugi, in Kupa district of Lokoja Local Government.
The State Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said government is resolved to finding lasting solution to incessant crisis between Fulani settlers and indigenes, lamented the recent clash that engulfed Bagana area of Omala Local Government Area of the State that led to destruction of lives and properties, and described the recent invasion of Ekpan in Kupa, area of Lokoja Local Government Area as one too many.
Capt Wada urged people of the State to be vigilant at all times, assured that government is resolved to bring lasting peace to all areas of the State.
The Governor said the State Emergence Management Agency would be directed to provide succor to those displaced, while more security presence would be deployed to the troubled area, and commended the Maiyaki of Kupa, Alh. Muhammadu Kabiru Isah for his matured handling of the crisis.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Shehu Idris, member representing Lokoja II in the Kogi State House of Assembly solicited the support of the State Government in the provision of security personnel and solicited relief materials to people of Ekpan who are displaced by reason of the clash.
In his remarks, the Maiyaki of Kupa, Alh. Muhammadu Kabiru Isah, recounted the ordeal of his people in the hands of over two hundred alleged fulani herdsmen, called for measures that would aid in the rehabilitation of people of his community as well as increased presence of men of the Nigeria police.
