Kogi State Government has intervened in the boundary dispute between Ayere community in Ijumu Local Government Area and Akunnu community in Ondo State so as to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
The chairman of the boundary commission, Arc Yomi Awoniyi gave the assurance when he received a delegation of Ayere community led by the Alayere of Ayere, Oba Solomon Olabo, who was in Lokoja to intimate him on the encroachment on their land by Akunnu community.
He appealed for calm, peace and understanding from Ayere Community even in the face of provocation, and added that dialogue remained the only solution to the dispute.
He stressed the need for them to live in peace and avoid anything that would undermine peace and promised to intimate the National Boundary Commission as well as his Ondo State counterpart on how to resolve the matter.
Spokesman of Ayere community, Gilbert lawal, had earlier in a remark, disclosed that the current agitation was caused by the discovery of some mineral resources.
He therefore appealed to the state government to assist in arriving at an amicable resolution over the disputed land and also help in rehabilitating the community.
