Kogi state government has inaugurated a committee on the establishment of Government Science Secondary School in Ganaja, in Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
The Committee, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Hon. Abdulmalik Abdulahi, was inaugurated by the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones in Lokoja on Monday.
Other members of the committee included key stakeholders in the education sector including the Permanent Secretary, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and representatives from the State Universal Basic Education Board and the Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board.
The Committee was given a clear mandate to work towards the commencement of academic sessions by 25th September, 2025, and deliver a comprehensive and workable document outlining the establishment of the school.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Hon. Wemi Jones emphasized the importance of the new Government Science Secondary School in enhancing the quality of education in the state. He reiterated the commitment of the State Government, under the leadership of Governor Usman Ododo, to providing access to quality education for all citizens and ensuring the development of a skilled workforce for the future.
He said the establishment of the Government Science Secondary School in Ganaja is seen as a major milestone in the efforts of the Kogi State Government to improve education infrastructure and facilities across the state.
“It is expected that the school will not only provide quality education to students in Ajaokuta Local Government Area but also serve as a model for other educational institutions in the state.
“With the inauguration of the Implementation Committee, the Kogi State Government has taken a proactive step towards achieving its goal of transforming the education sector and ensuring that every child in the state has access to quality education,” he said.
