Kogi State Government says it is worried by the rising cases and indiscriminate use of drugs, urged members of the Nigerian Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists to come up with suggestions that will help in curtailing the trend.
Capt Idris Wada, Kogi State Governor stated this when he received in audience, the National Executives of Nigerian Association of Hospitals and Administrative Pharmacists, who are in the State for their 17th Annual National Conference.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, urged the Association to avail the State Government of the insight as to how to deal with drug abuse that is now a source of concern to government.
Capt. Wada said his administration places premium on the well-being of the people, little wonder, the attention it has given to improved health care delivery.
Despite the financial challenges bedeviling State, the present Administration, the Governor explained, places the improvement on the welfare of health workers as a priority, said the Pharmacists would continue to enjoy government’s support.
The Governor promised to look into the requests presented by the Association, towards ensuring that Consultant Pharmacists in the services of the State government get their entitlements, said the State government, if not for its poor state of finances, is committed to ensuring that health workers in the state are adequately remunerated.
Earlier, Pharm. Yakubu Maji Isah, National President of Nigerian Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists, called for the employment of more Pharmacists in the services of the State government. The National President solicited the full implementation of CONHESS for all health workers, acceptance of young graduates from the State as intents and solicited that Consultant Pharmacists should be made to enjoy all benefits accruing to them as in other States.
Also speaking, Henry Ukubile, Chairman Planning Committee for the 17th Annual Conference, lauded the efforts of government in employing some Pharmacists, solicited the support of government for the successful hosting of the conference in the State.
