Kogi Government on Monday expressed its willingness to partner with stakeholders to bring about technological development in the state through innovations in science and technology.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the sidelines of the “Technology and Innovation Expo’ 2018”, at Eagle Square in Abuja.
Osikoya said that the state government was ready to partner with federal government, institutions, organisations and other stakeholders in science and technology to enhance practical technological advancement in the state.
“It is a good thing that Kogi is here in Abuja in spite the short notice in less than a week and we are able to put this together. It shows the willingness of Kogi government to engage stakeholders to show more interest, dedication and commitment to our course.
“It is also an indication that Kogi should be supported by the federal government and other stakeholders beyond whatever support we have received before now, which is not as it should be.
“We congratulate Gov. Yahaya Bello for reawakening the state, and the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, for creating the environment for us to rise up.
“We can now say that we are working on the issue and we are having innovation that is beneficial to the society and should be supported,” Osikoya said.
NAN reports that the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, in company of the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Ogbonnaya Onu, had earlier visited the Kogi State Pavilion in the expo 2018, where he commended the Kogi State Government for its presence the State University (KSU) for displaying varieties of cashew products.
Osinbajo said that if the KSU, received the support and scale up the production of all the cashew variance here today, it would turn the market around and promote the local content, instead of bordering so much on its exportation.
According to him, we can encourage the local industries to produce all of these cashew variance; there is more to cashew than just the nut that people chew.
Other Kogi institutions present at the expo were Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute, College of Education (Technical) Kabba, Government Science Secondary School, among others.
