The Supreme Court of Nigeria will on Friday, August 23, deliver final judgments in the disputes that arose in the conduct of 2023 governorship elections in Kogi state.

The apex court had on Monday took arguments from lawyers representing various candidates in the disputes and reserved judgments.

However, the Justice Garba Lawal-led 5-man panel of justices has communicated combatants in the legal tussles that its final decision was ready for delivery on Friday.

The apex court’s decision will bring to a close the prolonged legal battle between the incumbent Governor Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and candidates of three political parties challenging his victory at the polls.

Murtala Yakubu Ajaka of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olayinka Braimoh of Action Alliance and the candidate of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Abdullahi Bayawo are challenging the outcome of the elections.

A five-member panel of justices, led by Hon. Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, has been appointed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria to decide the case.

The other justices on the panel are Hon. Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Musa Saulawa, Hon. Justice Tijjani Abubakar, Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar, and Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris.

Recall that Ododo had won at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal as well as at the Court of Appeal, both in Abuja.
