Suspected political thugs on Sunday vandalised the campaign office of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Alhaji Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.
The hoodlums also made attempts to burn down the campaign office after they had vandalised the banners.
The campaign office, along Kpata, had its windows broken, while other items like air conditioners were reportedly carted away.
Addressing newsmen at the scene, the SDP deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Sam Abenemi, accused the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of spearheading the burning of the banners and vandalisation of the widows of the campaign office.
“This is absolutely uncalled for. The electoral act as amended doesn’t call for this kind of things. It only requires you to go to the field and woe the electorates. This act does not win election.
“No wonder, the Muri/Sam ticket is winning the heart of Kogites by the day.
“In any case, some vandals came here recently and warned our security men that we should pull down the photographs of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu who is the mentor and the leader of my principal, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka. And for the reasons of the presence of the billboards carrying Tinubu’s photograph was why they came to do this.
“However, this would not deter our support for Mr President. Tinubu is our President who has started very well.
“Let me use this medium to call on all our supporters to remain calm,” Abenemi stressed.
