Ahead of November 11 governorship election, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state, Dr. Toyin Akanle, has reiterated his support for power shift.

In a chat with newsmen in his Isanlu-Makutu country home, he spoke on the newly established university but wondered if the move had no ulterior motive.

Dr. Akanle, a retired spy chief, lamented the hopeless situation of local governments in Kogi state.

“I believe strongly in power shift. Yahaya Bello benefitted from the effort and sweat of some people on 2015. I can proudly say I am one of them. But he came and decided to govern the way he knows best. Even in the central, he didn’t get the kind of votes he got from Kogi West senatorial district during the primaries. These votes gave him opportunity to be governor.

“He has not been in this side of Kogi state more than 3 times since he became governor. Even important occasions where they invited him, he didn’t come, yet, we delivered him.

“A university is not about buildings but there must be grants for research. You don’t just wake up one day that you want to establish a university because you want to compensate a people or rather, lure and deceive them into voting for his candidate who will take over from him. The honourable thing he should have done is look for somebody from Kogi West,” he said.

Dr. Akanle spoke about dearth of infrastructures and the pitiable state of local government administration in the state.
