Ahead of November 11 Kogi governorship election, 20 support groups have dumped the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Barr. Adejo Okeme.
Rising from a meeting in Thursday, the support groups endorsed the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.
In a position letter addressed to the Leader of the Obidient Movement, Dr Sunday Bala Oma and made available to newsmen, the leader of the Groups, Comrade Benjamin Isah, thanked the LP Support Group Forum for the partnership thus far.
The support groups adduced reasons for dumping the governorship candidate of LP.
“We, the Coalition of Peter Obi Support Groups in Idah Federal Constituency, comprising of the following support groups: BUT, TBN, POSN, YP, POINT, POP, Elders Forum, Arewa Support Group, Kogi State Libration, OYM, Confluence Youth Decide (CYD), Association of People Living With Disability (APLD), Kogi Elites, Youth Mobilisation, Kogi Super Volunteers (KSV), Kogi Nobles, Clergy Men and Women (CMW), Kogi State Restoration (KSL) and Lumazio, have lost confidence in LP executive at the state level.
“In the meeting, we unanimously endorsed the candidate of SDP, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, as our governorship candidate in 11th November, 2023 election with the following reasons:
“We passed vote of no confidence on LP state executive with what happened in the last election.
“With the track records of all candidate, Muri has done well in the area of human capital development. He is acceptable by majority of our people in Idah Federal Constituency, when we carried out our door to door survey.
“He is the only one who know how to fund his party during election.
“Adopting him make it easier for us during campaign,” the position letter read.
They expressed gratitude to the Coalition of Support Groups (CSG) in the state for their understanding.
The support groups reiterated their stand for credibility and development of Kogi state.
