Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has said he will not impose his son, Abubakar Idris as the next governor of Kogi State even though the nation constitution allows him by qualification to contest the office.
In a one-on-one interaction with some online journalists today in his Asokoro mansion, the former governor said he is grateful to God almighty for what he has done for him and will never engage in any act of ungratefulness.
He said he had once resisted the temptation to go into senate, owing to the fact that he is never an ungrateful personality. Having served the state for nine years he insisted that another person should serve in that capacity.
The former Governor said that it has never been in his culture to discourage anybody from any political contest, “be you a rich man or a poor man, be you a Christian, Muslim or a traditional worshiper, either from Kogi West, Central or East.”
He said as a Muslim he will never say this man or that woman will be the next governor of the state or not considering his own story and emergence as a governor as he believes it is only Allah that can make leaders.
According to him, his children are Kogites and they have constitutional right to vie for any position in the state, but said his family is not the only family in Kogi State neither is he the only person in Kogi State. He stated that he will never impose or compel anybody to support any of children for an position.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris also disclosed that he has never called any meeting or anybody to work for any of his children’s ambition, debunking the ongoing rumor in the state that he has anointed his son to be the next governor.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader said the era of imposition has gone going by the rate of political awareness in the state and said nobody can compel anyone to vote or for anybody.
He said he will never abuse the confidence reposed on him by the good people of Kogi State.
The former governor said the rumor is aimed at creating division in the PDP family in Kogi State, insisting that his doors are widely open for any aspiring politician.
He assured that he is working to ensure a free and conducive environment for a successful political decision.
On his son, Abubakar Ibrahim Idris, who has already picked an intent form bought by some youths from Kogi West, the former Governor said it is left for the people of Kogi State to decide where they should go as he believes whoever has the prerequisite qualification can dare to contest any political position contestable and must be ready to accept the outcome.
Alhaji Ibrahim who sympathized with the people of Kogi State said he believes everything has time and that God will definitely help the state out of it current challenge.
