Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has dissolved the administrative team of the twenty one local government areas of the state.
The administrative teams were appointed by Governor Bello on Friday, May 6, 2016 to superintend over the affairs of the local government councils in the state.
In a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, the Governor approved the dissolution following the constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and the expiration of the tenure of administrative team.
The Administrators and their team were directed to handover the reign of power to the Directors of Local Government (DLGs) in their respective local government areas from from Wednesday.
According to the Ayoade, the dissolution of the council administrators and their team was inline with the preparations of the state government to conduct free, fair and credible elections at the local government levels soon.
Governor Bello commended members of the Administrative Teams for their profound contributions to the development of their respective councils and the state at large.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Evang. Kingsley Fanwo reiterated the position of the SSG, stressing that the dissolution is expedient given that the tenure of the administrative teams has elapsed.
“The reasons for the dissolution were clearly stated in the statement issued by the SSG. Kogi is a state that respects the constitution and constitutionalism. The tenure of the Administrative Teams has elapsed and it is constitutionally expedient to dissolve them in line with the constitution.
“Moreover, the State House of Assembly today, screened and cleared members of the State Independent Electoral Commission. The Commission is saddled with the responsibility of conducting Local Government election in the state.
“With the constitution of SIEC, processes leading to the Council Poll has kicked off in earnest.
“The administrative team members will always be members of the GYB Family,” he said.
