Kogi Gov, Speaker Hails Confirmation of Irukera’s Appointment as CEO of FCCPC

Governor Yahaya Bello has described the confirmation of Barr. Babatunde Irukera’s appointment as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) as “a testament to the Kogi spirit”. 

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, the Governor noted that Irukera’s sterling qualities as a committed, brilliant and patriotic public officer has distinguished him as a true servant of the nation and a good ambassador of the confluence state.

“In this trying economic situation in our nation, we have no doubt as to your readiness and capacity to protect consumers and promote healthy competition among producers of goods and services.

“We watched with joy whenever you put on your legal regalia to lead the defense of the Nigerian people against producers of substandard goods and exploiters whose interests are antithetical to the wellbeing and welfare of our people.

“The Governor, Government and people of Kogi State are proud of you. We also use this opportunity to thank Mr President for his continued faith in our state and the human resource we offer to the renaissance of our dear nation,” the statement read.

Also, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole said the “cheering news of the confirmation of the appointment of Barrister Babatunde Irukera by the Senate is a welcome development, considering his monumental contributions to the agency as a committed and outstanding legal luminary that has the passion to deliver on any assignments given to him.”

Kolawole commended President Muhammadu Buhari who saw in Irukera a worthy ambassador of not only Okun nation but the entire Kogi state to be given such a responsibility to serve the nation in the capacity for a second tenure.

He said his sterling qualities as a committed, brilliant and patriotic public officer, have distinguished him as a true servant of our nation and a good ambassador of Kogi State.

He described him as an excellent, pragmatic and workaholic personality that has consistently distinguished himself as a professional wherever he finds himself and should be ready to redouble his efforts in protecting the interest of the Nigeria consumers in the face of the economic challenges occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that Barrister Irukera is one of the shining lights that have made Kogi state proud as an international legal luminary who progressed through the ranks to the position he finds himself now, praying that God shall continue to guide him.

Speaker Kolawole prayed that God in His infinite mercy will grant him wisdom, knowledge,  understanding and good health to pilot the affairs of the commission.
