The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Youth Frontier, has raised alarm alleging that an illegal secret ‘torture’ camp is currently in operation within the precincts of the Government House in Lokoja, under the code-name ‘Swift Response Squad.’

The opposition youth group made the allegation in a statement signed and issued to the media by its National Coordinator, Usman Okai Austin.

According to the group, the statement is an outcry made to draw the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris Kpotum and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to the abuse of human rights currently on-going in the said camp.

The youths also called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to caution the governor to avoid break-down of law and order in the state.

The statement reads in part: “We want to draw the attention of the Inspector General of Police and the National Human Rights Commission to the gross abuse of human rights currently on-going in Kogi state.

“Governor Yahaya Bello is running a secret detention camp around his office – an act considered illegal, and capable of undermining the Rule of Law.

“The operators of this secret detention are called Swift Response Squad.

“For days now, Governor Bello has currently in his detention camp the likes of Alhaji Mohammed Barga – the zonal Vice-Chairman of the PDP in Kogi west; and, a former Vice-Chairman of Okene Local government, Hon Usman Okorongo.

“The offence committed by the PDP zonal Vice-Chairman was that, he publicly criticized Governor Bello leadership style after last Friday’s Jummat prayers at a Mosque not far from the Lugard House, Lokoja.

“The APC should also caution governor Bello as the good citizens of the state will not be forced to take law into their hands.”
