Lagos based journalist, Arogbonlo Israel while preaching against the incessant killings in Kogi, has cautioned politicians to shun violence ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election, adding that only weak politicians rely on violence in order to win a poll.

Arogbonlo, a campuslife writer with The Nation newspaper, made this known in a press statement released to newsmen on Sunday.

The student journalist of the year called on all the aspirants in the November 16 poll in the state to embrace peace as violent means during electioneering would only cause chaos, and in turn mar the poll if not checkmated.

The statement reads in part, “I was so pained to the heart when I heard news of a student of Kogi State University shot dead in the school premises last week as a result of the present security challenge in the state.

“It is pathetic and uncivilized to see what our society is becoming because of the greediness of some heinous individuals somewhere who value political power more than human lives.”

He continued: “I condemn this attack and urge all the candidates contesting in the November 16 poll in Kogi to as a matter of urgency shun violence so as to safe our democracy from going into extinction.

“If you ask me, I think only weak politicians still rely on violent means to win elections in this 21st century where we have 1001 strategies that could be explored in order to come out successful in any poll,” the journalist said.

Arogbonlo urged all the Security Agencies in the state to tighten the security of the state by being proactive rather than using reactive measures when faced with a problematic situation.
