The wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has donated cash and foodstuffs to 400 vulnerable widows in the state.
Hajia Ododo while flagging off the distribution at Government House Lokoja, said the cash and food items were made possible at instance of the Nigeri’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
“I am always happy to put smile in the faces of widows because they are very strong women who have faced the dangers of life and deserve to live life well.
“Most of our widows go to bed hungry and it is not their failures that makes it so, or the failure of our society, hence, we should care for them because they are our mother.
“We should care for every body arround us who is a widow not only widows but we should prioritise the care of all mothers,” she said.
She noted that through the Renewed Hope Initiative Empowerment of the federal government, the Nigeria’s first lady, Mrs Tinubu was determined to empower all women and make them independent.
She added: “As your daughter, I promise to continue to protect your interest.
“I thank our mother, Mrs Tinubu for constantly providing the needs of women especially women in the country and empowering them always.
“You are a true mother and a connection of hope to every beneficiary today.
“To the glory of almighty God, and for the benefit of mankind, I hereby flag-off the distribution of rice to our dear widows in the state,” she said.
While thanking God in the life of her husband, Hajia Ododo assured the people that the governor would not disappoint them.
She added: “may the almighty God continue to lead my husband to do the right thing for all kogites”.
In her address, the wife of Deputy Governor, Mrs Margret Oyibo, assured the widows that the government remained deeply committed to providing and supporting them to achieve economic independence to improve quality of their lives.
“Together we can create a network of solidarity and hope! Let us continue to work hand in hand for a brighter tomorrow for all. Oyibo said.
Also speaking, the wife of Kogi Assembly Speaker, Mrs Hassana Umar, encouraged the widows to accept the little given to them in good faith as more shall surely come their way.
Mrs Ojone Ojatah, the state’s Widow Coordinator, commended the governor’s wife for her love for the widows.
She prayed God to continue to bless her and the government of Kogi state.
Other beneficiaries, Mrs Margaret Alabi from Mopamuro, and Mrs Gloria Ameh from Ankpa, both thanked the governor’s wife for her support at this critical time.
