The Federal Government on Thursday says no government ministries and agencies should reject any corp member posted to serve in their respective places for primary assignment.
The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osibajo, gave the directive in his message at the swearing in ceremony for corps members deployed to the state for 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1, at the Kogi State Orientation Camp, Asaya, Kabba.
The message which was delivered on behalf of the Ag. President by Kogi Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Arome Adoji, said that the existing government policy that corps members posted to MDAs should not be rejected.
“Indeed, government agencies and private sector employer are to assign challenging responsibilities to corps members during their primary assignment.
“By so doing, they will be fully incorporated into the process of nation building and be able to contribute their quota to national development.
“The Federal Government is aware of the challenges that face the NYSC scheme and it’s duty to mitigate these issues including security, deployment management and processes.
“We shall continue to encourage continued cooperation between the Federal, State and Local Governments to ensure the smooth and effective execution of the operations relating to the scheme,” He said.
He, however, encouraged the corps members to make use of the skills and experiences that they have gained and give their best to embody the values of leadership, courage and resourcefulness that would serve them during their assignments.
In her speech, the State Coordinator, Mrs Ngozi Nwatarali, said the NYSC Orientation Course was the launching pad for the one year national service to prepare corps members to play their expected roles in service.
“It will equip the corps members with practical, social and leadership skills, inculcate discipline and good ethics required for primary assignment during the service year.
“It will also create a forum for corps members to have a better understanding of the environment, culture and the people of the State they will work with,” she said.
A total number of 1900 corps members comprises of 989 males and 911 females took their Oath of Allegiance, administered by Justice Arome Akogu, on behalf of the State Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, in line with the provisions of the NYSC Act.
The Commissioner later went round the camp to inspect some ongoing project facilities being executed by the State government.
The projects include: 9 soak away pits, 56 toilets, 32 bathrooms, 64 chambers, 10 doors replaced, mosquito netting, repairs of 145 double-bunk beds, among several others.
