The Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Stephen Tayo Aremu, has reiterated government’s commitment in partnering with the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, Kogi State Chapter.
This is contained in a press statement made available to The Graphic by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Sadiq Ibrahim.
Hon. Aremu stated this when the association paid him a working visit in his office.
The Commissioner said the Ministry was poised to harness the knowledge and skills of the Town Planners towards the sustenance of government policy for effective implementation.
He thanked the body for the timely visit and promised that they will be co-opted into the UN Habitat Committee in order to bring their expertise and know- how as the input of the body is needed; stressing that the UN Habitat project is due to commence full operation any moment from now and charged the body to be of good advice since the project will last only two years having suffered some delay.
Hon. Tayo promised that Kogi State under Capt. Idris Ichala Wada will wear a new look as measures have been put in place to ensure that. He said that the Kogi State monthly sanitation exercise has come to stay; while efforts was being made to open up another refuse dump site along Salem University road, Ganaja. Government is also determined to give the state a beffiting outlook by clearing the town of street trading with the determination to relocate the traders to international market and other places earmarked for the said purpose.
Earlier in his speech, the president of the association, Mr. Abraham Samuel who led other executive members of the institute, said they were in the commissioner’s office to seek collaboration with the ministry in the area of sanitation, good environment and building.
The Permanent Secretaries in the office of the Head of Service and that of Information, Mr. Yeye and Mr. Yunusa Ilani who were also members of the institute, have called on government to collaborate with the members of the institute in the implementation of government programmes for effective service delivery.
In his remark, Mr Jerome Ikani, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, also a member of the institute thanked the body for their visit and promised that government will partner with the institute in order to effect good policy implementation.
