Kogi: Elders Set Agenda For Governorship Aspirants

Elders from the eastern part of Kogi state have set up committee for peace and unity to prevail in the forthcoming election in state.

The chairman of the committee, former deputy Governor of Benue state, Alhaji Sule Iyaji stated this yesterday in Lokoja while addressing newsmen after the committee’s meeting.

Alhaji Sule Iyaji stressed that the committee to set agenda for peace to prevail among contestants in the forthcoming election became imperative to avoid rancour and acrimony.

“It is lack of agenda for contestants in the previous elections which bred hate and misunderstanding among contestants and having discovered such the elders have come out with the intention to filter the contestants for peace to prevail”, Alhaji Iyaji stated.

He further stated that peace and communal living has been the hallmark of the people of Igala kingdom, noting that a contestant who has no proper research and development plan to engage the youths and women in the agenda cannot be guaranteed the opportunity to serve the people.

According to the chairman, peace is the first condition for development in any given polity without which no genuine development and growth will be in place.

The committee’s chairman who succinctly commended the effort of elders for putting the process in place, assured that the outcome would be credible and acceptable and binding on all genuine contestants.

Earlier, most contestants who spoke with journalists pledges their allegiance to the out come of the committee saying that whoever emerges would become the candidate of each party.

Those who appear before the committee and pledged their allegiance on the platform of the APC and PDP include,  Hajia (Dr)  Halima Alfa, Alhaji Mohammed Audu, Dr. Idris Omede, AVM Salihu Atawodi, Admiral Jibrin Usman,  Prof Seidu Mohammed Onailo, Alhaji Hassan Yakubu and Hon Joe Erico.
