Kogi Education Ministry Eyes Partnership with Women Engineers to Improve Science Education in Schools

Kogi State Ministry of Education said it would partner with the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN) to improve science education in schools across the state.

The State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, made this known on Friday when the Association of Professional Women Engineers, Kogi State Chapter, visited him in Lokoja.

He commended the Association for coming up with the initiative of organising Girls Science Quiz Competition in public school in the state, noting that the initiative is in line with the “School Adoption and Mentorship Programme” of the Ministry.

The Commissioner encouraged them to continue to mentor the young ones especially the girls child in science related courses.

The Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Alabi Albert Bamigbade, promised to collaborate with them to make the proposed Girls Science Quiz Competition amongst the public schools in the state a success.

In her address, the State Chairman of the APWEN, Engr. Mrs. Cecilia Attah said the Association was in the Ministry to intimate them of their plan to Kick-Start Girls Science Quiz Competition in Public Schools in the State.

The Association, she noted, is saddled with the responsibility of creating awareness amongst girls child that engineering is not only meant for boys but also for girls.

She called for synergy with the Ministry to make the quiz competition a huge success.
