A socio-cultural group, Unyogba Igala has accused an aspirant for Kogi East senate seat, Air Marshal Isaac Alfa(rtd), of using his military connections to harass Senator Atai Aidoko in his quest to return to the Senate.
Unyogba Igala made this known in strong worded statement issued in Idah after consultation with stakeholders in Igala land.
The group stated that the desperate tendencies of the retired service chief would have helped better the lots of Igala people if channeled to helping his people in his over forty years sojourn in the Nigeria Air Force.
The spokesman of the group, Ocheje Otijenu argued that Alfa’s endless litigation at the court of law has denied Kogi East of quality representation through constant distractions.
The group frowned at the desperate tendencies of the former Air Force chief, alleging that it is been orchestrated by those who never want anything good for the Igala race in terms of development and infrastructural advancement.
“In a sane democratic environment, the court is the final arbiter to determine the political logjam in Kogi East and we are aware there is a case before the appeal court for determination. Why the resort to using another level of court, this time at the magistrate and security agents to trail and detain a serving Senator like a common criminal because of his military background?
“Ten months to the end of this term at the Senate and just a month away from the next primary elections of the party, Isaac Alfa and his cohorts are still not satisfied with how they have bastardised the interest and the welfare of Igala race as he had shamelessly indicated interest to contest under the party to return to the Senate in the next dispensation,” he said.
The group faulted the sit-down-look stance of prominent Igala stakeholders on the attitude of former Air Force officer who, they said, had succeeded in destroying the common patrimony of the race using his unrepentant tendencies influenced by the wife from another extraction who benefited immensely from his influence during his days in service.
According to Otijenu, the group will hold Alfa responsible if Aidoko gets harmed in the face of current continuous harassment using the police and other security agents. He stated that plans are already hatched to kill the senator by all means possible.
He warned that if the trend continues, the group will resort to self help by stopping the former Air Force top shot from assessing even his village, Inye and the entire Igala land.
He enjoined the people of the area to play politics according to the rules as Senator Atai Aidoko Ali never imposed himself on the people as been displayed by Alfa.
The group also warmed security agents to desist from being used for unconstitutional acts under the guise of carrying their statutory functions.
He advised security agencies to steer clear of political issues to avoid overheating the polity and protecting the sanctity of the nation’s nascent democracy.
