The famous Abraham Lincoln’s meaning of democracy, which is “government of the people by the people and for the people”, in the view of Comrade Amade Godwin Edime, has often been misrepresented by enemies of the same concept who are, painfully, the major players in politics, just to suit their self-serving purposes.
Comrade Edime, a contestant in the 2019 Kogi East senatorial race on the platform of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), made the disclosure last weekend while addressing his supporters in Anyigba.
In his words: “I’m of the people. I.e., there is no iota of difference between the people and myself, no matter how lowly placed they might be in the society. I come from within them: wether poor or rich; sick or healthy; local or international; literate or illiterate men or women, etcetera.
“Interestingly, people’s total wellbeing is the greatest motivation for every private or public action that I have taken in life. So, my legislative actions, when given the privilege as Kogi East senator come 2019 will be people driven. It will be a total reflection of the yearnings of our people, God willing.
“And Finally, the aspect that brought me into politics, which is, “for the people”, is my favorite. I love to fight for the people. My life is never at ease anytime I see a fellow human being looking helpless and hopeless. Surprisingly, I do not pretend or struggle to do it; it’s a hubby for me. I’m never irritated or disgusted by anyone, no matter how dirty or unlikeable that person may appear. I have been naturally wired by God to be an enthusiastic burden bearer for suffering people.
“Therefore, I congratulate the Igala/Bassa ethnic nationality. Our day-break time has come; a time to redefine democracy is now! Welcome onboard”, he submitted.
