Acceptance Speech By Senator Attai Aidoko Ali, The PDP Flag Bearer In The 2015 Kogi East Senatorial Election.
My fellow People of Kogi East, it is with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that I accept this ticket to run as the flag bearer of our great party, The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in the 2015 Kogi East Senatorial elections once again.
This victory was made possible by you the people. And to my fellow contestants, I have nothing but commendation and respect for putting up a good and purposeful fight. You all have demonstrated your willingness and determination to represent the good people of Kogi East Senatorial District. The success of this primary and the victory that has come out of it is not just for me but for all of us that stepped into the water. It is a victory for those who believe in the course of kogi East development and for democracy in general.
My hearty appreciation is to the delegates, over 200 of you who voted according to your conscience. I extend my warmest appreciation for the long hours and the experience invested in this exercise. The orderliness, the transparency, fairness and justice of the process and the spirit of sportsmanship devoid of bitterness that characterized this process signpost a better future for our democracy.
The Peoples Democratic Party has demonstrated once again, to all that we are a party of great minds and democratic ideals. The flag of the party that you have handed over to me I accept with a deep sense of honesty, humility and history, knowing fully well that our people deserves nothing but the best in terms of good governance and dynamic development. We have a legacy to build upon. We have a challenge to meet and speedily too and as I always say, ours is a journey in progress and this victory has shown that we shall get to the promise land.
We must not rest on our oars, the responsibility belongs to all of us. Let us put aside the disappointment of yesterday and embrace the opportunity of today and the advancement of the development of our fatherland.
We have only just commenced the first phase of the execution of our political agenda for 2015. The next phase beckons. We must all work together to ensure that our party gets the victory at the end of the day.
On my part, I promise never to waiver or fail. I promise to energize and mobilize our teeming supporters in the next phase of this struggle. I put myself to the task, knowing fully well that the foundation laid must never be destroyed but built upon. I commit to the continuation of excellence and the upliftment of the lives of all the people of Dekina/Bassa land and to continue to make robust and effective legislature for the betterment of our dear country, Nigeria.
My warmest regards go to you all, the number one leader of our party in the state, His Excellency Capt Idris Wada, the executive governor of kogi state for providing an enabling environment for the peaceful conduct of the primary, leaders of our party in the national level, state chairman of our party, Zonal chairmen of our party, local government chairmen of our party, the youth of kogi East, men and women of goodwill, and everyone who contributed to our success today.
