Kogi Dep Gov’s Wife Survives Domestic Gas Explosion

His Excellency, Yomi Awoniyi, Deputy Governor of Kogi State and his wife, Mrs Tokunbo Awoniyi are hale and hearty and were not physically affected by a domestic gas explosion that occurred at about 7.15am at their Dolphin Estate, Lagos, residence this morning.

In a statement issued by Abu Micheal, Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Deputy Governor, the early morning accident which damaged the kitchen area and dislocated some other parts of the building, however resulted in burns on a female domestic assistant, while the debris from a section of the building resulted into injury on the family driver who has been working with the family for several years. The affected persons are stable and are receiving medical attention.

Whereas the Deputy Governor was not in Lagos at the time of the accident, his wife and the mother in – law were in the building but suffered no physical harm. They have since visited an hospital for observation and shock therapy.

The Deputy Governor has expressed appreciation to several people who have shown concern on the accident.

Relevant accident investigation agencies have visited the building to carry out assessment and safety procedures.

It would be recalled that there was a cooking gas explosion which occurred at about 7.15am today at the Dolphin Estate of Mr Awoniyi , the explosion was said to have been caused by a leakage from the cooking gas cylinder.
