The Kogi state Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) has trained 27 Projects Management Committee members, from the three senatorial districts of the state, on facility maintenance and effective management of micro projects.
General Manager of the Agency, Mallam Dauda Momoh, disclosed this at the end of the training programme on Friday, in Okene.
Momoh said that the effort was aimed at enabling the 27 participants, drawn seven benefiting communities and two vulnerable groups of micro projects, to imbibe the culture of maintenance for the projects executed in their various areas.
He said that the training would also equip the participants with skills and competence to source and generate funds locally to sustain the projects.
The general manager stressed the need for capacity building in every endeavour, saying, “training is part of our mandate. Before the implementation of any of our projects, the handlers must be trained.”
Momoh stressed the need for maintenance of intervention projects such as clinics, townhalls, markets and schools, among others, “in order to keep them in good condition continuously, extend the lifespan of such facilities, prevent them from burning, vandalization and collapse.”
He commended various communities and groups in the state for their initiatives of embarking on self-help projects that were of immense benefits to improving their living standards, urging them to ensure their sustainability.
The general manager assured the communities of sustained support in getting more projects implemented for them, saying, “we are still working hard on how to get more money from government to execute more community development projects.”
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the participants were trained in basic health, environmental sanitation, water, electrification and manual facility maintenance, by facilitators drawn from government departments.
