A Kogi State Senior Magistrate Court in Lokoja has granted an order that a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims and 15 others being investigated over alleged dealing in human parts be remanded in police custody.
The court, which was presided over by Mrs O.R. Haruna, made the order while ruling on an exparte application for a remand order filed before the court by the state Commissioner of Police on Oct. 15.
Haruna said the police prosecutor, Theophilus Oteme, had disclosed probable cause for remand of the suspects in the seven-paragraph affidavit sworn to by one Sgt Ibrahim Ademola and attached to the application.
“In effect, the application is meritorious and same is granted as prayed,” the court ruled.
The magistrate ruled that the suspects be remanded in the custody of the Tactical Squad of the Nigeria Police Force, Abuja, adding that the case be returned on Oct. 29.
The remand order obtained by police was to allow for conclusion of investigation into the matter before formally preferring charges against the suspects.
Abdullahi, a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, alongside 15 others were on Oct.12 paraded in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh.
He had emerged candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ankpa/Olamaboro/Omala federal constituency in the just concluded primary election prior to his arrest.
Other suspects in the case were Yakubu Amidu, Julius Alhassan, Shehu Haliru, Obile Attah, Akwu Audu, Alh. Shaibu Adamu, Abdullahi Zakari, Saleh Adama, Musa Abdullahi, Yakubu Yahaya, Shagari Adama, Isaac Alfa, Baba Isha and Idoko Benjamin.
