Kogi Council Polls: KOSIEC to Collaborate With KONGONET, Others

Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has assured non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations and socio-political organizations in the state of its readiness to collaborate with them to ensure a successful local government council elections. 

The Chairman KOSIEC, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri made this known during a familiarisation meeting between the leadership of KOSIEC and Kogi NGO Network (KONGONET) in Lokoja on Thursday.

KONGONET delegation, led by Idris Ozovehe Morina, visited to familiarize themselves with the leadership of KOSIEC and discuss the commission’s preparations for the local government council election.

Issues bordering on local government council election time table, safety of voters and electoral materials and security were extensively discussed at the meeting. 

Eri commended KONGONET for their visit and re-emphasised the commitment of KOSIEC to conducting local government council elections in Kogi State before the end of the current year.

However, he noted that “KOSIEC is still carrying out necessary consultations with relevant stakeholders before announcing a most convenient date for the elections.

“KOSIEC under my leadership will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to ensure that elections are conducted in a peaceful and secure atmosphere. That is why we have held series of meetings with all the security agencies in Kogi State to collaborate with them to ensure that the highest level of security is maintained throughout the electoral process.”

The Chairman also reiterated the importance of voters education and sensitisation to the success of elections. Adding that KOSIEC was already in talks with all the major media organisations in the state to ensure that information is “widely and clearly” disseminated throughout the electoral process.

He also expressed the readiness of KOSIEC to partner with KONGONET in the area of voters sensitisation and election monitoring.
