The people of Takete-Ide Amuro community in Mopamuro local government area of Kogi State have appealed to the state and local governments to come to their rescue over collapsed bridges in the area.

A member of the community, Emmanuel Obajemu said Takete-Ide Amuro community and other neighbouring communities have been facing lots of hardship since Owo bridge, which is a major bridge linking the communities,  collapsed more than three years ago.

He said the community had on many occasions made appeals for government to repair  the collapsed bridge but nothing has been done.

According to him, the development has been affecting the socioeconomic wellbeing of the people as they find it difficult to transport their farm produce to the market.

He said apart from the Owo bridge, the Awu bridge in the area has equally collapsed for sometimes now and needed to be fixed.

According him, the community has just managed to put up a makeshift wooden bridge through which they access their communities on  motorcycles.

The communities affected by the collapsed bridges are Takete-Ide Amuro, Ayedayo Amuro, Otakun-Amuro and Iluke.

When contacted, Director General on Media and Publicity to Kogi State Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, who also hails from Takete-Ide Amuro community, said the government was aware of the plight of the people and that steps were being taken to fix the bridges.

“The Governor has directed the Commissioner for Works to ensure the bridge is fixed. The Commissioner was there as well as engineers from the Kogi Road Maintenance Agency.

“I can assure you that the bridge will be fixed very soon. I implore them to remain patient,” Fanwo said.
