The people of Aiyegunle Gbede in Ijumu local government of Kogi state have called on the Nigerian Police Force, Kabba Area Command, to carry out thorough investigation in the prosecution of hoodlums apprehended over the vandalization of electricity transformers in the community.
National President of Aiyegunle Gbede Descendants Union, Mr. Ahmed-Ade Fatai, made the call at a press briefing on Friday.
Fatai said hoodlums who vandalized two transformers and the community dam were apprehended by local vigilante and promptly reported the vandals to the police area command in Kabba, but lamented that the suspects were quickly charged to court without the additional interrogation needed to identify and apprehend their kingpin and other potential accomplices, despite the community’s attempt to seek further investigation.
He said the community’s priority remains to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy behind the attack, get all their stolen properties back and to hold all responsible parties accountable.
He lamented these assets were vandalized in a distressing incident that has deeply impacted all members of the community negatively.
“We have been actively engaging with the relevant authorities, including the Area Command, to emphasize the importance of a thorough investigation. Our goal is to ensure that justice is served and that our community can be assured of its safety and security.
“I want to assure everyone that Aiyegunle Gbede is resolute in its commitment to protecting our communal assets and upholding the rule of law. We are working tirelessly to support the ongoing legal process and to ensure that our concerns are addressed.
“We appreciate the support and understanding of all community members during this challenging time. Your vigilance and cooperation are crucial as we navigate this situation and work towards a resolution,” he said.
He called on the relevant authorities to collaborate with them in ensuring that justice is served and that their community’s interests are fully represented.
