Kogi Committed to Reduction of Preventable Diseases

Kogi State Government says it will do everything within available resources to reduce preventable diseases that causes blindness.

Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada made the promise at the Kogi State Specialists Hospital, Lokoja, Venue of the Mark Anumah Medical mission, in conjunction with fountain of joy and comfort Foundation.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi says its free rural medical programe which has recorded success across the State, will be sustained towards improving the health and well being of the people.

The Governor disclosed that the recently concluded free rural medical in Okene, Ankpa, and Kabba concentrated on treating eye ailments, said the exercise was revealing, assured that the efforts towards improving the programme is being worked upon.

Capt. Wada described health as wealth says the present administration cannot afford to toy with the health of its people, commended the initiative of Mark Anumah mission as well as fountain of Joy and Comfort Foundation, for running the free mission for the third time.

Also speaking, Dr. Idris Omede, the State Commissioner for Health, said the health of the people is of utmost importance, disclosed that government can no longer do it alone, called on people to report early changes in their health as it is another way to reducing blindness.

In her remarks, Prof. Felicia Anumeh, said her medical mission which started in July is in honour of late Dr. Mark Anumah; whose passion for the health of his people knows bo bound.

As at time of the Governor’s visit, 2000 patients have been attended to while 200 cases of surgery have been carried out.
