Kogi state government has paid 200million naira bursary allowances to the state indigenous students in tertiary institutions across the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Student Matters, Comrade Precious Matifo at a press conference in Lokoja said about 25,205 students of State origin in higher institutions have received bursary payment alert from the state scholarship board.
Matifo said N100 million is for the backlog of Law School students’ fees and N30 million was released last week as bursary for 25,000 students.
The state government last week began the payment of the bursary, including the backlog to 205 students of the Nigeria Law School (NLS) and others studying in foreign institutions.
“Each of the 205 students from the Law School will get N205,000, he said”.
According to the Executive Secretary, Kogi State Scholarship Board, Mrs. Rebecca Acheneje, who also spoke at the conference,said the government opened a portal for the students in July this year to make access easier for those that were eligible.
She commended the state governor, Captain Idris Wada for his prompt response to the needs of the students.
