Kogi: Chevron Donates Hybrid Library to Government Science Secondary School, Dekina

A Chevron company, Texaco Nigeria Outer Shelf has donated a hybrid library to the Government Science Secondary School, Dekina, Kogi State in its bid to empower and boost the knowledge of students and teachers in science and technology areas of learning.

Speaking at the donation ceremony in Abuja, the director, Star Deepwater Petroleum Limited, Jeffrey Ewing, said the donation of the library to the school is a show of commitment to the improvement of standard of education in Nigeria.

He also explained that the hybrid library has book and online resources.

He added: โ€œOver the years, we have committed ourselves to ensuring qualitative education in Nigeria through several initiatives such as annual national and community scholarship programme. Chevron and its partners have instituted specialized educational scholarship programmes in support of science and manpower development in Nigeria through targeted support for medical, nursing, laboratory sciences and engineering students.โ€

Ewing, who was represented by Manager, Policy, Government and Publicย Affairs of Chevron, Sam Otuonye, revealed that 132 indigenes of Kogi state have so far benefitted from the Agbami medical and engineering professional scholarship as well as Tuberculosis Leprosy (TBL) referral centre to the Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.

While pledging that Chevron and its partners would continue to its pivotal role in the development of education in Nigeria particularly in its core areas of operation, Ewing added that the partners would also renew its commitment to the improvement of the standard of education and the development of superior manpower for Nigeria.

He charged the beneficiaries of the library not to see the facility as an end in itself, saying, โ€œits value is not in its structure, but in its use. We implore you to take full advantage of it so that you can derive maximum value for your own benefit and the benefit of your community and Nigeria as a whole.โ€
