The Kogi State Ceramics Industry, popularly known as Idah Sanitary Ware, was established in the 1980s and for many years, it stood as a beacon of excellence in the sanitary industry. Located in Ofukolo, within the historic city of Idah, the company was renowned for its innovative designs and steadfast commitment to quality. It played an instrumental role in transforming bathrooms into spaces of comfort, hygiene, and sophistication. Its strategic position in Idah allowed it to effectively serve both local and regional markets.

Throughout its operational years, Idah Sanitary Ware produced durable, stylish fixtures that enhanced both residential and commercial spaces. Its products gained popularity for their reliability, sleek appearance, and water-efficient features, making it the preferred choice for many households and construction projects across the region.

However, despite its achievements, the industry faced persistent challenges from successive administrations.

Following the creation of Kogi State on August 27th, 1991, efforts were made to revitalize or sell off the company. During the Yahaya Bello administration, the industry was sold off to generate revenue for the state. Unfortunately, this move marked the end of an era for one of Idah’s and Kogi State’s most cherished industries. It also resulted in the loss of numerous jobs—both direct and indirect—that the company had created over the years.

Today, the legacy of Idah Sanitary Ware endures in the hearts and memories of those who appreciated its contributions to bathroom design, hygiene, and employment. Although it has gone into extinction, the name remains a symbol of innovation, quality, and community impact—once a shining star in Idah and beyond—leaving a lasting impression on its people and the industry.
