Kogi Central zone has set up an elders’ council for community development and to foster unity and peace among the rural dwellers.
The chairman of Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mr Aloysius Okino, while receiving members of the council expressed optimism that the formation would bring the much needed peace in the area.
He described it as timely, maintaining that the only way to attract positive development to the area is through team work by the elders and the youths alike.
He promised continued support to the group to be able to achieve its goals.
According to him, the activities of the group since its inauguration has helped to douse tension, saying that the group must continue to engage the youths through dialogue and sensitisation on the need to eschew violence.
He stressed the need for the elders to be above board in all their undertaken, saying that the younger generation looks up to them for guidance.
The leader of the group, Senator Aboyin Isah Obaro said they were in the area on a familiarisation visit to enlighten the people on the activities of the group.
While disclosing that the council was inaugurated in July this year, Obaro solicited the support of the council chairman for easy operation of the group.
Senator Obaro informed that members of the body was drawn from the five council areas that constitute the central senatorial district of Kogi State.
