All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, governorship candidate in the last gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Dr Goodman Akwu said that the state can generate enough revenue from mineral resources that are abound in the state.
He added that if the abundant mineral resources in the state are properly harnessed and tapped, the state has no reason to wait for federal allocation to initiate development and meet up with other obligations.
The APGA candidate disclosed this in Lokoja in a brief interview with journalists on Thursday.
He argued further that focus on mineral resources would have also avoided the tax regime in the state, where people are forced to pay higher taxes, despite the low economic activities in the state, especially as it’s a purely a civil servant state.
Akwu Goodman who said he is in the state to monitor the on going voters registration exercise called on all adult that has attained the age of 18 years to endeavor to register and collect his/her voters card to enable them make good
choices during elections.
He admonished youths not undermine the potency of PVC, as it remains the only medium to remove bad government and install good governance in the state, to save the masses from the economic quagmire and the
depression occasioned by bad governance.
He said the state is endowed with enough mineral deposit in the country: “about 29 mineral are deposited in large quantity in the state, including oil and gold, out of which just 3 are been exploited, that is Gibson, Coal and stones”, he said.
He added that “the state government need to do is to unlock these potentials, by bringing in core investors to develop them and pay royalties to the state government, which is enough money, rather than going cap in hand to Abuja to beg for funds at the end of every month”.
