The Chairman of United Labour Congress of Nigeria (ULC) Kogi State Council, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon, has expressed described the massive votes buying, violence and rigging that characterised last Saturday’s bye election in Kogi state as disturbing.

Opaluwa, who is the Kogi state champion of the Red Card Movement Nigeria, stated that the brazen acts of thuggery during the August 11 bye election calls for concern.

In a chat with Kogireports, the labour leader said the dangerous trend of votes buying must be discouraged by all.

“I am getting worried and I believe that should be the worry of all lovers of democracy in Nigeria. Vote buying is becoming a very dangerous trend in the country. How on earth can any voter sell his PVC for as low as one thousand naira? The act is highly condemn able and should be discouraged by all.

“We have always preached a violence free election but it beats my imagination that in this age, youths can still offer themselves to be used to perpetrate violence by politicians. To me, it is shameful and senseless,” he said.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all lovers of democracy to rise up to the occasion and save democracy in Nigeria.
