The Chairman of Kogi State Boxing Association, Matthew Kolawole, has promised to revive boxing in the North-Central if elected as a member of the executive board of the Nigeria Boxing Federation in Abuja on Tuesday.
Kolawole said his wealth of experience would help the sport grow in the country.
He said, “The North-Central should be expecting to host national competitions because there are many hidden talents in the zone. I will sponsor good boxers to national events and invest heavily in the sport,” he said.
The Kogi State House of Assembly member said he would ensure that coaches in the zone were trained.
He said, “I will ensure that coaches in the North-Central are exposed to modern coaching skills. I will also train more judges in the zone to avoid some of the discrepancies witnessed at national boxing events.
“It will surprise you that Governor Yahaya Bello is a former boxer and I will explore this avenue to attract national competitions to the zone with the governor’s backing.”
