Contrary to reports making rounds that top marathoner, Aderonke Olumidi is on the verge of switching nationality due to funds constraints, the Kogi State Athlete has insisted that she is still in top form to compete for Nigeria.
She said: “I am resuming for training next week in Lagos, all this while, I have been in Abuja. Though I won’t be taking part in the Lagos city marathon because I did not train for a full marathon race. However, I hope to train for other races outside Nigeria slated for February and March this year. I don’t intend to dump my country in spite of the Herculean task I face, getting funds.”
In a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Olumudi stated that she hopes 2016 would be a better year to boost her career as she had been restricted from running in major races due to non availability of enough funds.
Olumudi, a gold medalist at the 2013 Zhuhai International 10km marathon in China was also unable to defend her
title of the race as a result of shortage of funds.
Olumidi added further that she has indeed been persistent despite the funds constraints because she hopes to get the hallmark of her career.
“I am not deterred. I would continue to seek for funds from well meaning Nigerians as the growth of my career is determined by hard work and availability of funds.”
