Kogi Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MOEST), on Wednesday says all her efforts to conducting quality and credible basic examination in the state have yielded the desired results.
Mr Femi Sunday, Director Education Support Services, MOEST, spoke to newsmen after he monitored the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) examination in some schools on Wednesday in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Areas of Kogi.
He said they had gone round to monitor the exam and there were lots of improvement in the general conduct of the BECE exam.
“All the efforts of the ministry under the leadership of the commissioner, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, has yielded the desired results and we are glad.
“We went to several schools today and our observations are the same. We are glad things have tremendously improved; exam materials arrived all centres timely, and the children are also happy.
“We congratulate our governor and the commissioner and all our principals for a job well done,” Sunday said.
He assured that all efforts were going on at the level of the ministry to ensure that the BECE exam results are released on time.
On his part, Mr Daudu Abiodun, Zonal Director Education, Kabba/Bunu and Ijumu LGAs, said there was tremendous improvement compared to the previous BECE, saying there was no problem.
“Things have been going on smoothly in this zone since the commencement of the exam and we are doing mathematics today”.
He noted that a total of 51 schools were participating in the exam with a total of 1, 760 candidates in Kabba/Bunu LGA.
He commended the governor for giving the enabling environment and the commissioner for bringing innovations to the conduct of exams, which has made us to have less problems and less complains in the exams.
“We want her to maintain the good innovations and increase on the tempo”, Abiodun said.
Earlier, Mr Emmanuel Abolusoro, the Principal of St. Augustine College, Kabba, said there used to be lots of challenges associated with BECE for long, saying there was a great improvement this year.
According to him, there used to be shortage of question papers in many schools in the past, but this year, everything is accurately delivered. we hope the ministry would build on it.
Abolusoro, who doubles as the Chairman ANCOPSS, Kabba/Bunu LGA, said: “We now have a standardised and unified BECE examination in Kogi unlike before when each school conducted the exam separately.
“It is a very good development and I hope the government will keep it up”.
An Exam Supervisor at St. Monica College, Kabba, said the exam started early and the students had been of good conduct.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent who was part of the monitoring team from the ministry, reports that UBEC JSS Apata School, Community Secondary School, Odo-Ape and Bishop McCalla High School, were also visited.
