Meanwhile, the former Deputy Speaker and member representing Omala State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Akuh has moved a Motion with number 08, “Appealing to the President, Federal Republic Of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to Establish Federal Secretariat Complex In Kogi State”.
The Lawmaker further said it has become imperative for Kogi State like other States in the Federation to have her own share of a Federal Secretariat Complex in Lokoja where federal ministries, departments and agencies can have a central place to carry out their constitutional responsibilities as it relates to the State.
He said it is interest to note that States created alongside and after Kogi State already have their own Federal Secretariat project ongoing, noting that it is about time the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari approve the building of Federal Secretariat in Kogi State.
He said the establishment of Federal Secretariat in Kogi State will enhance employment opportunities for Kogites and also boost economic activities in the State as regards the Federal Staffs that will be domiciled in the State thereby increasing the revenue generation of the State.
The Chief Whip and member representing Ijumu State Constituency, Hon. Victor Omofaye described the motion as timely and long overdue for Kogi State to have its own share of the Federal edifice, pointing out that work are going in States like Nassarawa, Bayelsa, and Zamfara while Kwara State already have a fully established secretariat in the State Capital, Ilorin.
The House in their resolution appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to establish a Federal Secretariat Complex in Lokoja, Kogi State and that the resolution be forwarded to the Hon. Minister representing Kogi State at the Federal Executive Council and Kogi State federal lawmakers, drawing their attention to this development and urging them to use their good offices in facilitating the establishment of Federal Secretariat Complex in the State Capital.
The House also urge the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to follow up the resolution by presenting it before the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria for action.
