Kogi Assembly Tasks Local Govt Administrators On Transparency

The Kogi state House of Assembly has charged administrators of the 21 local government areas in the state to adopt and implement the blueprint of the current administration in ensuring transparency, sincerity and good governance.

 

 

The House’s standing committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs gave the charge during a meeting with the 21 council administrators in Lokoja.

 

 

Chairman of the committee, Mr Sunday Shigaba (PDP-Bassa) urged the administrators, as critical stakeholders in the development programme of the state, to lead the councils in all sincerity, transparency and be accountable at all times.

 

 

Shigaba warned that local government administration should not be taken with levity as it remains the closest tier of government to the people who according to him, should be made to feel the impact of government and good governance.

 

 

He said that the interface was imperative, especially with the new direction agenda of the state government to reinvigorate and reposition the government towards achieving good governance.

 

 

He said that the interface was part of the oversight functions of the state legislature in line with section 103 of the constitution to enhance better legislation and good governance.

 

 

In his remarks, the Administrator of Kogi local government, Barr Tanko Musa described the meeting as timely and stressed sued for support of all well-meaning people of the state for Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.

 

 

He commended members of the house for their display of maturity in the amicable resolution of the leadership tussle that assailed it for about five months and coming up with a new leadership, saying that the place of peace in governance was paramount.

 

 

The administrators congratulated the new Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Umar Imam on his election and prayed that the house would excel under his leadership.
