Kogi state house of assembly standing committees on works, infrastructure, communication, multi-lateral and donor agencies says it will not relent in ensuring contractors handling state government projects execute them to specifications.
Chairman of the committee and member representing Ankpa 1 constituency Ahmed mohammed stated this when he led other members of the committee on an oversight visit to the state ministry of works and urban development.
The Chairman of the committee who also doubles as the deputy majority leader said the visit of the committee to the ministry was part of the assembly’s constitutional mandate of oversighting government ministries, departments and agencies so as to ensure that tax payers money were judiciously utilised.
He maintained that the era of abandoned projects in the state was over due to the fact that the assembly had always approved monies budgeted for infrastructural development.
Vice chairman of the committee, Victor Omofaiye and member representing Ijumu constituency called for greater synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government as well as urged the ministry to hasten work on some roads that require quick intervention before the raining season commences.
Also the majority leader and member representing Ajaokuta constituency Hassan Bello Abdullahi while lamenting years of infrastructural decay in the state said, the visit of the committee was to aid the ministry carry out its activities with ease.
In a remark the commissioner ministry of Works and urban development, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Sadiq disclosed that most road projects being executed across the state were in various stages of completion.
The commissioner maintained that the quality of road been executed by the present administration were those that could last a least 25 years.
