Kogi Assembly Sets Aside Screening of LG Secretary Nominee Over Age Discrepancies

Kogi State House of Assembly has set aside screening of a clergyman nominated for confirmation as secretary of Ijumu local government council.

The nominee, Reverend Michael Amupitan Sunday, could not give satisfactory response to the discrepancies in his age when he appeared before House for screening on Tuesday.

Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Rabiu Alfa moved a motion that the confirmation and screening be stepped down until the nominee do the needful.

Reverend Michael was directed to harmonize the disparity in his age in his curriculum vitae, Primary School Leaving Certificate and that of his WAEC Certificate.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, said the clergyman can be re-nominated after the needful has been done as the date of birth provided in the document presented before the House showed a foul play.

Ijumu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Taofiq Isa had written the Assembly notifying the House on the suspension of the elsewhere Secretary, Hon. Alexander Obaropo and nominating Reverend Michael Amupitan Sunday as his replacement.

The House had rejected the request, pointing out that the request did no follow due process but the Council Chairman forwarded another letter of suspension as well as nomination of the clergyman.
