The Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has notified the House about two privately sponsored bills.

The two bills which were announced on the floor of the House during plenary sitting on Thursday were sponsored by the member representing Yagba East State Constituency, Hon Emmanuel Obaro.

The first bill has its title as “A Bill for a Law to Repeal the Kogi State Urban and Regional Planning 2010 and Enact a Bill to provide for the Administration of Physical Planning Urban Development, Urban Regeneration and Building Control related purposes”

It is believed that when the bill is repealed and reenacted and subsequently assented to as law, it will take care of the loopholes in the administration of urban, regional and building plans in the state.

The second bill is titled “A Bill for a Law to make provision for the amendment of Chiefs (Appointment, Disposition and Establishment of Traditional Councils in Kogi State) Law, 2006.”

It is expected that the second bill will create sanity in the running of the affairs of traditional institutions when assented to.

Speaker Yusuf, thereafter, directed Hon Emmanuel Obaro to lay the draft of the two bills before the House which he subsequently did.

The bills are expected to pass through first and second reading during which the sponsor of the bills will lead the debate on them.

Thereafter, the bills will pass through their third and final readings before being assented to as laws
