The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kogi State, has accused the State House of Assembly of playing the script of the executive arm of government by declaring vacant the seat of the immediate past Speaker, Alhaji Umar Ahmed Imam.

A statement by the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Indah Abdulrahman said the action of the legislators is not only illegal but a rape on democracy.

He called on all lovers of democracy to condemn the action which he described as a vindication of the opinion of many Kogites that the State Assembly is a rubber stamp of the Yahaya Bello-led executive.

Alhaji Indah vowed that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) will join hands with its candidate for the Lokoja-Kogi National Assembly bye election, Umar Ahmed Imam in seeking redress in court.

The party chief attributed the kangaroo action of the Kogi State House of Assembly to a popular African saying “of pot calling kettle black” and wondered why the Speaker, Kolawole Matthew who decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could have the moral authority to preside over a matter he is personally guilty of.

Alhaji Indah called on the electorate in Kogi state to prepare to vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections at all levels, assuring that its candidate for House of Representatives bye election scheduled for August 11 will emerge victorious.
