Kogi Assembly Extends Tenure of LG Caretaker Chairman, Okays N58.8b Supplementary Budget

Kogi State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of Transition Committee Chairmen in the twenty one local government areas of the state by another six months.

This is sequel to to a letter sent to the House by Governor Usman Ododo, seeking extension of the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen.

Governor Ododo, in the letter read by the Speaker, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, said paucity of funds, high wage bill are some of the reasons why local government election is yet to be conducted in the state.

The Speaker charged the Transition Committee Chairmen to be good ambassadors of their respective Local Governments.

Recall that the Transition Committee Chairmen were appointed in January this year by former Governor Yahaya Bello.

In another development, the State House of Assembly approved a supplementary budget of 58.8billion naira for the year 2024.

In December 2023, the State House of Assembly passed into law the 2024 Appropriation Bill of 258.2 billion Naira.

In a letter to the House on Friday, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo appealed to the lawmakers to approve the supplementary budget to attract more investments to the state.

The House in a committee of a whole considered the supplementary budget clause by clause before it was approved.

The Speaker of the House said the approval of the supplementary budget will give the Executive the opportunity to finance the various agencies approved by the House.
