Kogi State government has approved the release of N4.5 million to clear the backlog of promotion arrears owed lecturers and non academic staff of the Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa.
The state governor, Captain Idris Wada, disclosed this while speaking at a meeting with members of the management, governing council, academic and non academic unions of the institution at Government House Lokoja.
Saying that the meeting was convened at his instance to address the numerous demands of the workers of the institution with a view to resolving them and ensure productivity and quality of education in the College, Wada promised to look into the indiscriminate taxation of the workers and the implementation of their annual salary incremental steps, as he commended the move to upgrade the institution to a degree awarding institution which he described as very desirable, assuring them of government support to achieve the goal.
The governor however urged the staff to always remain calm, peaceful and matured in pressing home their demands to enable the institution to grow.
Speaking on behalf of the management and staff, the Provost of the institution, Dr. Isah Ochepa, appreciated the governor’s understanding to meet some of their demands as he pledged the loyalty of the institution to the government.
