The Kogi State Government has appointed new traditional rulers and upgraded some in line with the recommendations of the various local government areas in the state.
Prominent among the newly graded is the stool of Akogun of Ife – Olukotun in the Yagba East Local Government Area of the state, occupied by Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola, former Managing Director of DailyTrust Newspaper.
The appointments and upgrade was ratified by the State Executive Council (SEC) on Monday.
Ajibola was recently coronated with the title, Akogun of Ife – Olukotun at Ife – Olukotun on a grand occasion that attracted many personalities from far and beyond.
The title of Akogun, which was left unoccupied for many years, is believed in the traditional hierarchy of the town to be the next in rank to the stool of Olukotun of Ife- Olukotun, a conventional first-class stool in the State.
Also, the traditional stool of Elejuku of Ejuku, Yagba East LGA was upgraded from second to first class status. The reigning Elejuku is Oba Lamidi Folorunsho Ayeni.
The appointment of a new Attah Igala was also announced.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ozigi Mohammed Deedat announced the appointments and upgrade shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held in government house, Lokoja.
