Gideon Olugbemi, Lokoja
Considering the tense political atmosphere in Kogi state and the initial futile attempt by Hon. Taufiq Isa to give the erroneous impression that Hon Faleke has lost the confidence and support of the people in his local government area one would expect the chairman to understand the position of our people on the present crisis in the state and try to be rational in his conduct.
Though, I admonished Hon Taufiq to continue in the path he believes to be right, he should not be delusional about his ability to railroad our people into his entrenched position. This is because Hon Taufiq’s acknowledgement of his post as Okun campaign coordinator for Alh Yahaya Bello is a pointer that his actions and utterance on issues will always be tainted by sentiments. I have advised severally that in the interim people should hold on to their positions on this issue pending the final outcome at the tribunal.
The recent seven-day ultimatum allegedly issued by chairman Taufiq to those not in support of his conviction is amusing, unreasonable and capable of aggravating the situation on ground. Hon. Taufiq is advised to take things easy so as not to find himself in the awkward and embarrassing situation the hunter finds himself as soon as he becomes the hunted.
Primaries and campaign are over and expectedly, Hon. Taufiq should direct his energy to other available activities that requires coordination but if he persists, he will come to the unpalatable realization he is on his own as far as this issue is concerned.
This is a democracy and the majority will always have their way. Praising Hon.Faleke to me is double speak because it is contradictory and unbecoming of chairman Taufiq.
Subsequently, the immediate withdrawal of the ultimatum is expected and must be given the prominence accorded the initial comic tantrum tagged ultimatum.
Hon. Taufiq should be advised by late Fela’s song; WHEN TROUBLE SLEEP YANGA GO WAKE AM! WETIN HIM DEY FIIIIND?
Application of wisdom in what we do must be taken seriously. A word is enough for the wise.
